This also marks the addition of another world-class professional football stadium in Shanghai.

As a “super football stadium”, Pudong Football Stadium has more “connotations” in addition to traditional large-scale football events – the stadium is equipped with professional e-sports space and related supporting facilities, making it another iconic e-sports venue in Shanghai. The Pudong Football Stadium’s debut was a world-class esports feast – the 10 League of Legends World Finals (S31) finals will be held on October 2020. At that time, this exquisite “white porcelain bowl” will be unveiled.

The construction site of Pudong Football Stadium is located in Zhangjiabang wedge-shaped green space, with a total construction area of 139304 ㎡, a fixed seating capacity of 33765,3, and a 2-story competition court and <> training courts on the ground.

The football field is arranged along the north-south direction (15° west of north), and two outdoor training fields are set up on the west side of the main stadium, forming a square, flat and symmetrical pattern of the central axis; A green entrance square is set up on the north side near Jinxiu East Road, which serves as a buffer space for a large number of people to arrive during the game; At the same time, a vehicle loop is set up along the outer circle of the football field, and the traffic flow design and entrance and exit layout are reasonably carried out to achieve the separation of people and vehicles. In order to meet the technical standards and requirements of AFC and FIFA for professional football stadiums, venues rely on sinking playing fields and raising underground space to improve evacuation efficiency.

The roof of the stadium adopts a prestressed spoke tension system, just like a bicycle hub covered horizontally above the course, the biggest feature is the combination of steel structure and cable net, replacing the previous heavier, cumbersome steel truss system, the biggest benefit is lightweight, the entire roof of the steel consumption in about 4600 tons, compared with the previous traditional construction method, the amount of steel used is about 50%.

The innermost ring of the roof consists of transparent sun panels, allowing sunlight to penetrate and shine on the turf. The outer circle of roofs is composed of white aluminum composite panels and membrane structures. The whole roof stretches and closes in the air at a certain slope. Drainage pipes are also being installed around the roof to ensure the discharge of rainwater on rainy days. Below the sun panels, there is also a ring of horse lanes for lighting, camera positions, etc., and the height is also higher than the last row of stands on the upper level, so that the view of spectators will not be blocked.

In addition, the stadium adopts a rectangular rounded corner double-decker grandstand layout, and the platform level is completely open to the stadium. The first row of spectator seats is only 10 meters away from the stadium, and the view is unobstructed, which can greatly enhance the atmosphere and experience of the game. In the future, Pudong Football Stadium will promote the overall construction of the region with a football platform, become a carrier of mass fitness, leisure and entertainment in Shanghai, and build a public sports activity center to meet the diversified fitness needs of citizens.

During the construction process, taking into account the humid, hot and rainy climate characteristics of Shanghai and coping with the intensive schedule, all venues are planted with natural grass, auxiliary lawn root reinforcement (anchor grass) system, and the competition venue is also equipped with root ventilation and drainage system to improve the soil microenvironment to help lawn growth, which will meet the all-weather high-density competition schedule and high-level competition process requirements.
