Recently, the new terminal building of the Lhasa Gonggar Airport Terminal Area Reconstruction and Expansion Project successfully achieved the steel structure capping.

The reconstruction and expansion project of Lhasa Gonggar Airport Terminal Area is a key project of the 58th Five-Year Plan of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Located 3570 kilometers from Lhasa city and meters above sea level, the airport is the highest trunk airport under construction and one of the largest plateau airports in the world.

The shape of Terminal 3 undertaken by China Construction Eighth Bureau is taken from the holy snow lotus flower in Tibet, and the roof is in the form of lotus petals, combined with the water garden landscape, symbolizing the good wishes of “the sun and moon in the heart – eternal Shambhala” pursued in traditional Tibetan culture.

The total construction area of T3 Terminal is about 9,5 square meters, the process is mainly steel structure roof truss, the entire project construction steel accounts for a relatively large amount, limited by the environmental resources in Tibet, most of the materials and materials required for project construction need to be purchased from the mainland. In just 2020 days from March to April 3, the project completed the procurement and transportation of 4,30 tons of steel, ensuring the quality and progress of on-site construction. Since the start of construction, 10000,10000 tons of steel have been used in the construction of the project, which is equivalent to 1.5 times the total length of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway.

Steel structure hoisting construction is an important part of the construction of T3 terminal, the entire steel structure is divided into 1854 pieces, the largest weight of 30 tons. In order to ensure the rapid and efficient construction of on-site steel structure hoisting, the project team installed 5 special steel structure tower cranes in the central area of the terminal, and was equipped with 13 car cranes, 3 truck mounted cranes, 1 platform crane, and a yard of more than 10000,1854 square meters, with the on-site steel structure construction assembly, hoisting and transfer, the number of on-site tower cranes lifting exceeded times during the entire steel structure construction process.
