The membrane material used in the membrane structure building is a film material with good strength and flexibility. It is a material made of fiber woven into fabric substrate and processed and fixed by resin coating material on both sides of the substrate. The fabric substrate in the center is divided into polyester fiber and glass fiber. The resins used as coating materials are polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC) and polytetrafluoroethylene resin (PTFE), and the fabric substrate and coating material have the following functional properties respectively in mechanics.

Coating material – weather resistance, anti-fouling, processability, water resistance, product resistance, light transmission.

Film material selection:

The membrane material used for building membrane structure can be roughly divided into PVC membrane and PTEF membrane according to different coating materials, and the correct selection of membrane material should be decided after considering the size, use, form, service life and budget of its building.

PVC Coated Polyester

PVC Membrane is cheaper than PTFE Membrane in material and processing, and has the advantages of soft material and easy construction. However, it is worse than PTFE Membrane in strength, durability, fire resistance and other properties. PVC Membrane material is made of polyester fiber fabric with PVC coating (polyvinyl chloride), the general construction of the membrane material, is on the surface treatment of PVC coating material, coated with several micron thick acrylic resin (acrylic) to improve anti-fouling. However, after a few years, it will discolor, stain, and deteriorate. The durability of general PVC Membrane is 5 to 8 years depending on the use environment. In order to improve the weather resistance of PVC Membrane, in recent years, fluorine resin has been developed on the surface treatment of PVC coating material to do coating, in order to improve its weather resistance and anti-fouling Membrane.

PVDF

PVDF is the short name of difluorinated resin (Polyvinylidene Fluoride), PVDF resin coated material on the surface treatment of PVC membrane is called PVDF Membrane. Compared with the general PVC Membrane, the durability of PVDF Membrane is improved to about 7 to 10 years.

PTFE Coated Fiberglass

PTFE Membrane is a material coated with polytetrafluoroethylene resin on the ultra-fine glass fiber fabric. The biggest feature of PTFE Membrane is its high durability, fire resistance and pollution resistance. However, compared with PTFE Membrane and PVC Membrane, the material cost and processing cost are high, and the softness is low, in order to avoid the glass fiber being broken in the construction, special tools and construction technology must be used.

Durability: PTFE of the coating material is very stable to acids, alkalis and other chemicals and ultraviolet rays, and is not easy to discolor or break. Glass fiber will not cause strength deterioration or tension reduction after long-term use. Film color is generally white, high light transmittance, durability of more than 25 years.

Antifouling: Because the coating material is polytetrafluoroethylene resin, the surface friction coefficient is low, so it is not easy to pollute, and can be washed by rain.

Fire resistance: PTFE Membrane conforms to the characteristics of all countries’ fire retardant material tests, and can replace other roofing materials for the same use.
