Not only is the former Rennes train station a physical barrier between the north and south of the city, it is also unsuitable for the passenger traffic that will double in the next two years and the new metro line due to the construction of new high-speed trains.
The architect’s idea was to attract visitors with a reconstructed landscape. Trees populate the train station, with steel columns ending in branches made of wooden beams to support the ETFE roof, which winds like clouds and waves.
Taking into account the need to use sustainable and recyclable materials, steel, wood and ETFE air pillows were used.
