For this project, a Japanese-made film was chosen, a completely transparent ETFE film. The design team conducted detailed analysis to determine the foil thickness required for site wind speeds, relying on wind tunnel testing to assess peak pressure loads. Using advanced technology, the 2D shapes needed to create a 3D cushion are designed and sent to the factory where the final ETFE air pillow can be manufactured.

The Macquarie University Arts Precinct ETFE roof is an incredibly lightweight structure that, due to its transparency, enhances other elements of the building such as the stunning roof garden and open-air atrium.

The ETFE roof, which looks like a floating crown, completes the project.
