The Steel Taipan ride at Dreamworld Gold Coast is the theme park’s newest attraction. The $32 million coaster features a 1.2 kilometer long track coaster and the Southern Hemisphere’s first triple launch system, which launches the train forward, backward and then forward again, at speeds of up to 105km/h!

A custom walkway canopy structure was built to provide shelter for patrons waiting in line for the Steel Taipan ride. The structure is designed with custom printed PVC designed to match the architectural intent of the structure – to mimic the scales of a Taipan snake! The barrel-vault canopy structure features a custom print of Serge Ferrari 702 S2 that mimics the pattern of the Taipan snake’s scales. The structure provides sun and weather protection to patrons waiting in line to ride the roller coaster.

The canopy structure’s frame mimics the Taipan’s spine and vertebrae, consisting of prefabricated box-shaped door beams and folded aluminum plate vertebrae cladding the structure between the ribs. Horizontal channels secure the tensioned membrane fabric roof. The scalloped fabric on the east side is tensioned by fixed rails on each rib. They are placed randomly, giving the fabric a random scalloped edge.
