This design is the “Liangjiang Panlong” wedding banquet cruise ship, which is a catamaran with an all-steel welded structure, equipped with double propellers and double rudders. The total length of the ship is 61 meters, the width is 22 meters, the depth is 4 meters, the maximum speed is 20km/h, and the maximum passenger capacity is 750 people. In our eyes, we hope to regard it as a 4,000-square-meter, three-story public building.

When we really intend to examine a ship from the perspective of architecture, we will immediately find its essential difference: it is not anchored to the site like a building, but a mobile element in the skyline of the river city. It has no fixed neighbors, but has the opportunity to have a temporary connection with any tower. Based on this characteristic, the most appropriate shape of the ship was determined: neutral, horizontal extension, non-directional, and translucent.

The ceiling adopts a translucent tensile membrane structure. Without repeated attempts, the entire steel frame was built almost as it was. Moreover, as a 20m span arch, the cross-section specifications of the rods used are thinner than expected. If lightness is more of an aesthetic pursuit in architecture, on a ship, it is related to the overall performance.
