As the renovation and upgrade project of Shenzhen Sports Center approaches its end, this stadium, which has once borne countless glories, is about to welcome the 5th National Games in 2025 with a brand new look.

The total construction area of Shenzhen Sports Center Transformation and Promotion Project (Phase I) is 261,000 square meters, a 15,000-seat comprehensive gymnasium, auxiliary venues and other sports facilities, cultural facilities and corresponding supporting facilities. Its unique feature lies in the adoption the domestic first “opening and closing roof retractable mobile display screen” design. Among them, the comprehensive gymnasium, as the first opening and closing roof project in Shenhen, has a roof span of 124 meters, an opening and closing roof span of 60 meters, a maximum opening area of 2000 square, and a steel consumption of 800 tons for the movable roof.

The movable roof is composed of two symmetrical structural units, each of which can move independently and horizontally on two separate tracks. The architectural form can be among fully open, semi-open and semi-closed, and closed states, breaking the boundaries between traditional indoor and outdoor spaces. The opening and closing of the roof has realized the comprehensive application of structure and mechanism, which has high requirements for the installation accuracy of the steel structure, and structural deformation needs to meet the range of self-adaptation of the trolley and the mechanical drive system. After unloading, the trolley that realizes opening and closing to achieve a uniform load-bearing condition, which is the focus of the installation of the movable roof in this project. The project team took measures such as structural cooperation, system design construction simulation full process calculation analysis, reasonable construction deployment, setting up a stable support system, pre-displacement change of the trolley track for the opening and motion, and real-time monitoring of the displacement stress during the construction period to ensure the smooth trial operation of the opening and closing roof.
