Home / Membrane Structure | An umbrella-shaped structure that echoes Mount Fuji
Deep in Tenbou Park, in the middle of the famous Kintaro Fujimi hiking route, the architect designed a pavilion and restroom that complement the towering beautiful appearance of Mount Fuji.
The building uses wooden beams and columns like an “umbrella”, inspired by the parabolic ridge of Mount Fuji. The beams and columns are held together by a central steel ring, connected by two “umbrellas” to create a strong frame structure.
Each structural element has a different role. Timber provides flexibility, steel is strong and strong, and sunlight passes through the membrane roof, bringing warmth to the pavilion. The outside of the wooden structure is covered with a fluorine-coated membrane material to resist the effects of weather. At night, the silhouette of the wooden structure stands out against the moonlit forest.
