COLLAB Café is a new café and co-working space located in the heart of Montreal’s emerging neighborhood Ville-Émard. The space is located on Boulevard Monk, the main street in the area, and occupies an area of ​​approximately 2,000 square feet. New restaurants and cafés are still few and far between in this residential area. Aiming to help its community grow, Collab Café not only offers its community a place to hang out and enjoy locally produced quality coffee, but also as a place to work, meet up, and escape from the daily grind of working from home.

Given that the front façade is the only source of natural light, it was important to keep the floor plan as open as possible. Therefore, the service desk is placed in the center and is spacious; it is not only a reference design element, but also has multiple functions. From the front, the structure is a plain customer counter. On the sides, a low U-shaped counter can be used as a shared work table.

Because these columns and beams have become one of the focal points of the overall design, it is not so much to disguise the existing structure as to show its strengths. To contrast with the light wood floors and white painted walls, the entire structure is clad in cobalt blue stained oak. Here, cobalt blue subtly enhances the texture of the wood, and the unifying color scheme is applied in different ways throughout the space. Whether it is the shiny blue steel table or the dark velvet curtains and stools, this iconic color enhances the brand’s image. To combine the blue hue with the natural wood of the floor, woodwork and Ton series chairs, the central counter is covered with a glossy light blue ceramic. On the peripheral walls, a series of square mirrors are covered with a faded blue film, giving the space depth, mystery and a richer color.
