The project has two service buildings, one high and one low, in the north and south areas. The main body of the service building imitates the shape of the ship island, with a grid steel structure + membrane structure “net canopy”, which presents the image of a leaping whale. From the bird’s-eye view of the project design, it can be seen that the north and south areas of the Changsha Bay Service Area are like two “whales” leaping from the river.

As an important part of the image of the “jumping whale”, the “canopy” covering the main body of the service building is the main technical difficulty in the construction process. The Changsha Bay Service Area is located in a coastal area with frequent typhoon extreme weather. Considering factors such as typhoon prevention and flood prevention safety and environmental protection, the selection of the “canopy” is particularly important. Considering multiple factors such as safety, light transmittance, and ductility, the material of the “canopy” is a new type of environmentally friendly ETFE air pillow film. Compared with traditional glass roofs, air pillow films have lower costs and better safety. At the same time, the air pillow film has a low density, good toughness, high tensile strength, and high light transmittance. While creating an artistic light and shadow effect, this material can also effectively reduce energy consumption.
